Background
I just patched the JoomSEF Version 2.0.0 component. This complete component is almost the same as the original Artio JoomSEF release except I have taken the code and removed all Artio advertising. This version has an advert in the Meta Generator Tag. This version removes that advert and is removes all associated files with the advert - unlike other versions that included these files. I chose to remove these files as they potentially represent a minor security risk. So this release has the meta generator and hidden advert in the output HTML removed. It may well be one of the best components for SEF but it is totally against the GNU/GPL license to include hidden adverts and code in any release. They should release it as a completely commercial component but obviously they see a benefit, being the free advertising, by releasing a supposedly GPL version. The Problem
There are encoded adverts in the normal Artio release of JoomSEF in the form of an addition to the Meta Generator tag in all webpages. This can affect website ranking in search engines. It also bloats the meta tag information with advertising and also requires more processing of the Joomla page which slows the website down.In version Joomsef 2.0.0 there are several files that need changing to remove the adverts. Unlike other versions of the software Artio have been much sneakier and tried to hide the code that is calling advert files. They have also removed all line breaks and also included a few other encodings to hide their actual code and even named functions and variables in their core code with unreadable names. SNEAKY. But nothing that would stop me from removing their hidden adverts.
