Imagine in the real world offline you have decided to start a business. You have a great product or service to sell and you want to start making extra money. You need a place to show your potential customers what you are offering. You need an office.

It's no different online. You still need an office or a website where your customers can look at and purchase whatever it is you are selling. Yes, you do need a website.

Ask yourself these 3 questions before you purchase a do-it-yourself website or before you have any web designer build a website for you.

1. Do I need a website right away?

If you already have a product or service to sell, then you are losing money the longer you wait to get a website. You need a website quick. Having a web designer or programmer build your website will take an extraordinary amount of time. Find someone who sells entire web site packages. A place where you can get your domain name, your website, and your web hosting all right there. That way you get your online office set up quickly so you can start making money.

2. Do I need a website that I can set up easily?

Yes. Make sure there is no complicated HTML or other programming code for you to learn. You also want to be able to say whatever you want and be allowed to make updates 24/7 with no extra charges. Also, will you be able to change your pictures or images? Does it come with a lead capture area? If you cannot find answers to these questions, do not purchase your website package there. You need a website where you are in total control.

3. Do I need a website that looks professional but costs little?

Yes. First impressions can make or break your business. Know your customers. Would they like flashy fluorescent colors? What font size is easy to read? How is your spelling? It doesn't matter if YOU don't like the style of your office. Will it appeal to your customer?

To get a professional website built and designed, you can pay from $300 to literally thousands of dollars initially. To update it or to even make the slightest change can easily cost you $75 to $250. Web designers or programmers may only allow changes once a month or only allow you 1/2 an hour a month of their time. Look very carefully at the fine print. A good quality web package deal can have you up and running, usually for under $100. This includes your domain name, your website, and web hosting for your website.
