Website Design As Easy As it Can Be

Many of us have websites. Heck, last time I looked around and talked to people, everyone has a website! Well, not everyone but there is a large crowd of us designers and internet addicts that have websites. I just want to quick talk about this. Whatever your website is about, whether you are trying to earn some money online selling products, collecting ad revenue or just have a basic website with informational snippets, it's very important to keep it looking clean and simple.

I have a couple websites on the net right now. They are mostly targeted to everyone who wants to read them. Mostly, they consist of articles I have written and posted on other websites that I have created over time, all nicely lined up 1 by 1 with links that go to a separate page that consists only of that article. I write about SEO, I write about relationships, I write about my time in the service and I write about politics as well. There are no real guidelines that I follow, no set topic for my site, its all pretty random. My point here is this, I get an ok amount of visitors to my site daily. A lot of my visitors come back to check for more articles and information and some even email me with comments on my writing. One of the main reasons people come back is because the site is very easy to navigate. It's not super fancy with crazy images and 3d graphics, it's just a simple website with a couple pictures and some information that helps people.

I see a lot of new webmasters coming on the scene (whether they created their site or not) with these crazy, hard to navigate and understand, websites. I don't know about you, but I cannot stand going to a website where I actually have to sit down and figure out how to get around. I like it to be easy, links that are titled and landing pages that go specifically to that topic, ad or product. I once went with a company called StartLogic for web hosting because their site was just so easy to navigate and all the competition at the time had sites that were just plain confusing. They turned out to be a pretty good company and I still work with them on some things. Point is, whether someone else was cheaper, I felt someone else might be better, I still went with them because at the end of the day, what do people want? Simplicity.

Keep it easy, keep it simple, keep it to the point. If your content is helpful and or entertaining, people will come back. You don't have to have a site like 2advanced.com to get traffic and or sales.. or whatever. (even though 2advanced is an amazing website) So webmasters, keep it simple, it works for me.
