Once you have completed creation of the website, it is necessary to move over to a more difficult part. You should ensure you are doing everything that confirms inclusion of your website into the search engines. Here is another list of what all needs to be done:
- After your website design is complete, you need to add meta tags and meta description. Most of the people in this field say it is not used anymore by top search engines, however, this description does help know a little more about your website. You should include all main keywords in meta tags and meta description.
- You will also need to include the spider files, this you can do by visiting the Google website especially created to help out new webmasters like you and me.
- Adding site map to your website is of utmost important. This map will help search engines identify all web pages on your website and index them accordingly. Sitemap could be a little complicated if you do not html, however, with a little trial and error and using up some hours you can create the basic site map. (It took me 8 hours though for the site map to be approved by Google, and that too with warnings).
- After the website has been created, you will need to put in appropriate content on the website. One of the mistakes amateur webmasters always make is that they do not use proper keyword tools. This will hamper the content development. Content development for a website is important, search engines often read the content at the time of indexing. Your content should be filled with useful information and appropriate keyword density. Keywords are very important in web development, everything from name of the website to the content and marketing is ruled by the keywords.
- All pages of your website need attention, however, special attention needs to be given to your homepage, which needs to show at the earliest in search engine results. Therefore, you need to use accuracy at the time of creating a website.
- Most search engines crawl websites each month (the ones which are not submitted for express submission). If you can actually create a powerful homepage, expect it to start showing at the top within 3-4 months. However, this depends totally on how well you have been marketing your website.
- Your website needs to be about a particular subject. If it deals with skin care you will have to market website related to a particular niche. Use, reuse, write, rewrite and research information. This is very important to add information and content on your website.
- If your website is a market place create a proper market like appearance where people find it easy to go through pages. If your website deals with information, ensure you are guiding your visitor through pages so he does not have to use up a lot of time searching for information.
- At times a talking character or a website search can help people look of something they want. A good sitemap would be helpful too.
Marketing your website is another wide subject; next article deals with this subject. |
